In this solution, Furukawa Electric's PON (Passive Optical Network: one of the optical access system methods) system, which has a lot of delivery records to cable TV operators, and Sharp's local 5G system are linked.Utilizing the existing network owned by the cable TV operator, it will be possible to build a high-speed, large-capacity communication environment using local 5G even in apartment buildings where it is difficult to wire optical fibers to each dwelling unit.In addition, the ONU (Optical Network Unit) developed by Furukawa Electric and the local 5G base station developed by Sharp will be integrated to improve installability.This solution will be exhibited for reference at the Furukawa Electric booth at the "Cable Technology Show 2022" to be held at the Tokyo International Forum on July 28 and 29, 2022.Copyright © Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.
